Responsibilities


The Register of Deeds Office is responsible for recording, archiving, and retrieving the land records for Jefferson County. We record various types of documents affecting Jefferson County real estate under the guidance of the Kansas statutes.

Our office is responsible for keeping a record of who owns what property. When you are buying or selling property our records are used for title research. This research is completed to determine ownership (deed) and also to identify any liens against a piece of property (mortgage, federal tax lien, state tax lien, etc).
