Overpayment of Fees
Due to the cost of processing refunds, the following policy was implemented in the Jefferson County Register of Deeds Office in accordance of Jefferson County Resolution No. 2009-1. The policy became effective May 1, 2009:
- If the overpayment amount is equal to $7 or greater, the Register of Deeds Office will automatically process a refund check to the submitter.
- Overpayments of $6.99 or less shall not be refunded unless the submitting party completes a request for the refund. A refund request must be submitted to the Register of Deeds Office on a Request for Refund form. The request must be received by the Register of Deeds no later than 30 days following the date the document was submitted for filing or recording.
- Any overpayment of $3 or less will not be refunded.
