1. What is the sales tax rate in Jefferson County?

For those areas not in the city limits, the rate is 7.5% as of July 1, 2015. The City of Perry is 8.00%. The City of Valley Falls is 8.5% and the City of Oskaloosa is 8.5%. The  City of Ozawkie is 8.5%. All other cities in the county are 7.5%. 2. How do I find out if I am registered to vote?

4. Do I need to register my business name in Kansas?

No. Sole proprietorships do not need to file their business name. General Partnerships may choose to file a statement of authority or other statements with the Secretary of State. 6. How Do I Request an Open Record?

7. Why do I have to declare a "party" to vote in the Primary Election?

The primary election is a partisan election.  It is the political party’s opportunity to nominate a candidate to be on the November General Election Ballot.  

If you are an unaffiliated voter and wish to vote at the primary you will be asked to declare which party’s ballot you wish to vote.  In Kansas that is either a Republican or Democratic ballot.  After the election if you don’t want to be affiliated with a party you may re-register through the County Clerk’s office.  

Your party affiliation cannot be changed after June 1st unless you are an unaffiliated voter. 

If you are registered as a Republican on the date of the election you will be given a Republican Ballot.  If you are registered as a Democrat you will be given a Democratic ballot.
